Every website and website project has 3 major components regardless of who builds it. These 3 factors define the “scope of work” for the project:

  • Design – What does the website look like?
  • Functionality – What does the website do?
  • Content – What does the website say?

Our solution for web development enables us to separate these 3 components and handle them individually. This results in a website solution that is elegant in its power and simplicity.You can have a standalone website or you can choose to integrate it with your Sage 300 ERP (formerly Sage Accpac ERP) software.

Design - What does the website look like?

The website design includes the overall graphical look and feel of the website. In developing a website design you will also need to take the navigation outline into account. Most websites have one design or template for the entire site. Sometimes you can have 1 design for the home page and a different one for the interior pages of the website.This gives you a balance between flexibility for the home page and accounting for the design requirements of your content (product catalogs, images, etc.) on the interior pages. Note: Things like interactive Flash presentations and body graphics (i.e. a graphical diagram) are typically confused with being part of the design. In reality, they are part of the Content. It is possible to have a website done completely in Flash but this is not commonly done.

Given the flexibility of our system we can use virtually any design which allows us to meet even the most demanding design requirements.We can use a design that you the customer supplies, we can create a custom design based on your requirements, or we can start with a template and then modify it to your requirements.

Functionality - What does the website do?

The functionality on the website should be geared towards helping your customer accomplish their goals. Functionality can be split into many general categories including content management, ecommerce shopping carts, product catalogs, directories & location finders, navigation management, marketing tools, third party software integration tools, etc. For business critical websites, this will probably represent the majority of the price. It also represents the highest area of risk for communication gaps.

For "Functionality", we offer a suite of over 700 ala carte modules. Like Lego® building blocks, these modules can "snap" together in any combination to create a truly custom solution. The power and flexibility of these modules enables you to easily and affordably accomplish all of your website goals. Content - What does the website say?

Content includes marketing copy (i.e. for the home page, about us page, etc), press releases, product data and images, pictures, videos, presentations, documents & files, etc.We offer a content management system called the Web Driver. The Web Driver is non-technical, password protected, web-based control panel that allows you to manage all of the content. Customers can add, edit, modify, and delete content in the website real-time. You can change text, upload new images, modify product descriptions, product pricing, etc. These changes are easy to make and do not require sophisticated technical skills or software. This enables you to make content changes without having to pay expensive hourly rates or experience delays in updating the website.

Content gets into the website through 1 of 3 processes:

  1. manual addition through the Web Driver
  2. upload through the Web Driver - using a csv file
  3. synch with outside data source - for example, product data in Sage Accpac ERP, financial software packages

The choice of which method to use will depend on the amount of content to be loaded or modified and the source of that content. If you are changing text on a page, it is probably easiest to manually change it in the control panel. If you are updating pricing on 15,000 products, you will want to either do an upload or synch it with your product database.

The initial content for the website is prepared by the customer. We provide a detailed checklist of all content needed. In addition, we provide coaching and support while the customer is preparing their content and we have standard templates that help in organizing data that needs to be uploaded into the website.Ongoing content management is done by the customer and they can do it on their schedule.
